Mother of God of Korsun - Hand Painted  9" x 7¼"

This icon of the Mother of God of the Sweet Kiss is inspired by a 15th century Russian icon called "The Mother of God of Liubiatovo" and also by the Mother of God of Korsun, which focuses on the faces of Jesus and Mary exchanging kisses and caresses.
With her sweet gaze Mary invites us to come closer to her son Jesus, holding the scroll of the Word of God hat he is himself, while at the same time showing his tenderness to his Mother who is also ours. Angels from heaven worship him as God, by offering him frankincense.

This hand painted icon is “written” according to the traditional technique of egg tempera with a background in gold leaves 23k on kaluga wood with raised borders and braces.

Worked in thin layers, it achieves a beautiful transparency when the final varnishing binds together all the differently colored layers in a transparent harmony which gives to the icon a depth and light expressive of its spiritual meaning.

All artwork is done in solitude and in prayer, anonymously and with love.
