Saint Joachim and Saint Anne 5½" x 5"
This icon shows the meeting of Joachim and Anne, the Virgin’s parents, both pious believers, praying to God every day. Their house is depicted as a large temple. God is with them, making them the father and mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the maternal grandparents of Jesus. The icon was originally painted by a Serbian painter in the fourteenth century.
This is a mounted icon. Mounted icons are created from quality reproductions of ancient icons and are printed on museum quality art paper with high quality pigment-based inks. The reproductions are mounted on birch veneered plywood and varnished for protection. The background is made with gold leaf.
